Do you pay yourself a wage? It’s a question I ask every business owner I work with and the most common answer is a resounding NO, particularly for those female-led businesses.

There seem to be a lot of reasons why business owners don’t pay themselves a wage, and I’ve heard them all. From the business can’t afford it or I withdraw cash from the business account when I need it, to I’m not really sure what to pay myself so I don’t bother.

But by far the most common answer is, 'I’m a sole trader, I don’t have to pay myself a wage'. There are lots more, and while all of those reasons are fair enough, today I’d like to share why you should pay yourself a wage and a few home truths about the consequences when you don't. So, if you’re in the non-wages camp or you've been toying with the idea of paying yourself a wage, tune into today's episode where I hope to convince you that paying yourself a wage is important and should be on the opt of your to-so list.
